View of Mt Kanchenjunga

Kanchenjunga and Miringla Pass (Eastern Nepal)

Kanchanjungh is one of the very remote and spectacular destinations in the Himalayas of Nepal. Country's 2nd and world's 3rd highest peak Kanchanjungha 8586mtr stands in the far north- east corner of Nepal, bordering Sikkim (India) in the east and Tibetan plateau in the north. The area represents one of the richest bio and cultural diversity in the Himalayas.

Himalayan animals such as snow leopard, mountain goat, musk deer, etc. roam the jungle around. Kirant people, who have their own lifestyle, culture and language, inhabit the area. In fact they are one group of people who established the human civilization thousands year ago in the Kathmandu valley and in the east Nepal. Trekking trails in Kanchanjungha are still one of the less explored zone. Trekking here starts from mid-hill village of Basantapur (2200mtr / 7216ft) and leads to the glaciers like, Yalung glacier and Kanchanjungha itself at the altitude beyond 5000mtr.
