Damodar Kund and Upper Mustang
Off the Tourist Trail and Cultural Trekking

Damodar Kund is one of the last attractions of tourist and spiritual importance opened for foreign tourists. Related to Krishna Lila of lord Krishna of Hindus it is one of the most important Hindu pilgrimage sites situated in of the most inaccessible areas of the Himalaya. Our team from Three Jewels Adventures organized a successful trek there not much later after the devastating earth quake of April 2015 and found the trek be one of the most exhilarating adventures in the remote Himalaya. Until recent times the area was only visited by few daring sadhus (holy men) but as regular trekking section of upper Mustang to Lo-Manthang is set with motorable road tourists have slowly shown interest to this area. As this area is part of the Upper Mustang, trekking here proceeds from Jomsom after two short flights from Kathmandu via Pokhara. To get acclimatized with high altitude and to ensure that you don't miss the tourist attractions of Upper Mustang, trek first does a small loop including ancient capital city of Mustang at Lo-Manthang, where, you will visit caves, monasteries and palace. From there trek heads east to last village en route at Yara and enters to the alpine nomadic zone. From Yara trek proceeds to Damodar Kund following rarely walked pilgrimage path. Unless you proceed to Saribung Trek or climb the trek returns same way back to Yara. At the end we take a jeep ride back to Jomsom from Tsarang. Those who prefer off the regular tourist crowd, good level of hiking adventure and cultural experience Damodar Kund and Upper Mustang combined trek is surly a flawlessly superb choice. Recently Nepal's tourism ministry has reduced the heavy fee to enter the upper Mustang for trekking. So it's possibly right time to explore the unexploited area of this Himalayan region.
