Community Supports (CSR)
Three Jewels is pleased to announce our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative which has outstanding way of GIVING BACK the benefits of tourism activities to the poor and needy community of the remote Himalayan Regions. For our community support activities we don't spend time and money to figure out where should we work or whom we should help. We locate needy people or a community by reading newspapers, watching TV, talking to locals while we trek and we offer immediate help. As tourism is a seasonal business in the Himalayas, we use our free times in the off seasons raising funds and using them in suitable projects. We raise funds from our generous clients, local friends and staff. Our commitment is that we don't have overhead costing to execute our social initiative thus making guaranteed full use of raised fund to support concerned projects.
Some Notable Projects We Have Completed Are
Community Library in Tapting Solukhumbu
Three Jewel's Team had managed to raise fund through US based non-profit and from support of our previous clients and our first community support project went to establish a community library at Jana Priya School Tapting Solukhumbu.Solukhumbu is the district where Mt. Everest is and southern part of the district Tapting is from where Three Jewel's most staff including owner Amber Tamang is from. In fact it was Amber Tamang's wish to help the remote school where his brothers and sister went for education. Because the school didn't have library, the project was much appreciated by students and teachers. Well stocked library is now staffed by a trained librarian whose monthly pay is supported by our fund too.
Support to Build a School and Monthly Pay to Teacher
Three Jewel's client Phil Doyle from Australia read our blog / web site about one of our projects and he decided to raise funds to help a group of villagers living in caves in a remote part of the Langtang area that do not have a school. Their village was destroyed in a landslide and the main bridge was ruined as well. Phil has raised substantial monies from his contacts at Curtis University in Perth and his Rotary contacts. He has brought the first installment of $1,000 and delivered it to the village representative on January 14th, 2011. Constructions of the primary school is completed and now it's running. There are about 30 students and 1 teacher. Through Phil's continues effort we are paying the teachers monthly pay.
Support to the High Altitude Mountain Guides / Sherpas
With additional help / fund raised by Phil Doyle from Australia, we managed to offer substantial amount to sponsor full course of basic English Language to the High Altitude Mountain Guides known as Sherpas. A month long course offering at least 45 hours tuition by expert teacher was the first of its kind to the High Altitude Mountain Guides. It was much appreciated by them and we plan to support them offering annual fund for the course. In fact we are searching both financial supporter and volunteer to teach annual basic / intermediate course in English for this project.
Volunteering Opportunity / Support to Remote Areas and Specific Courses
We plan to coordinate volunteer program linking with potential volunteer teacher, health worker and others with local groups. Our first volunteer teacher Mike Nicholson an educationist from California, USA sadly couldn't complete his wish to teach there as volunteer teacher due to his health complications. However he managed to bring help to the school included language learning, quality education materials and children's book and other materials to the school.
For the future we are seeking regular volunteer teacher to such remote schools who will be offered beautiful trek combined with 2 to 6 weeks' living with local family teaching to the local students basic or advance English. In addition first aid trainer, sport instructor or health workers can join us for our volunteering projects. For further details please send your concerns to our e-mail.
